Backpocket

Backpocket Dubuque

Wings, arcade games, and beer. What more could a number one spot need for game day? Not much according to our voters who put Backpocket at the top of this list. Located in the Millwork District, this local favorite is a great way to kick off tailgating for any game.

Copper Kettle

According to one voter Copper Kettle has ‘hands down the best wings in Dubuque’. That sounds like a claim we should test out for ourselves in the name of wing science. Originally a small neighborhood grocery store, this building was converted into a restaurant in the 1950s. Today, Copper Kettle serves up delicious food with a unique spin on the classics.

The Barn

Located just outside of Dubuque in Sherrill, Iowa sits The Barn - and once you see this building you’ll understand the name. From live music, a large menu, and even more space to fit your tailgating crew, this locally owned spot is a must stop.

Gary Dolphins Bar PHOTO: Gary Dolphins Iron Bar

Gary Dolphin's Iron Bar

The ‘Voice of the Hawkeyes’ is no stranger to what makes game days great. Maybe that’s why his bar comes in at number 4 on the list. This lounge is dedicated to Gary Dolphin’s love of the game and long career in broadcasting. The coolest feature? An outdoor patio with big screens perfect for game watching.

1st and Main Burger

1st & Main

Wrapping up the first half of the list is 1st & Main. Big screens and delicious food make it an obvious choice for game day but the Sunday bloody mary bar and brunch menu makes it great one. Get your Sunday funday tailgate started right with this local pick.

Birds Fried Chicken

Is your team playing on a Thursday night? Maybe even the second Thursday of the month? If so, you’re in luck. Birds Fried Chicken is the creation of Chef Kevin Scharpf (Brazen Open Kitchen owner and contestant on Bravo’s Top Chef Season 16) and these ginormous sandwiches can usually be found each second Thursday at the Millwork Night Market each May through October.

Dimensional Meetings

Dimensional Brewing Company

Whether you’re wanting craft beer or southern cuisine, you can find both at Dimensional Brewing Company. Also served up at this locally owned brewery? A stellar ambiance with an indoor/outdoor feel thanks to their open air windows and patio. A great way to celebrate a win or hype yourself up for one.

Nachos are always a popular game day choice, but what about Italian nachos? At Old Chicago you can catch the game, a plate of these unique favorites, and enjoy a drink or two. Did we mention they also serve up a variety of pizzas. What more do you need?

Jumpers Sports Bar & Grill

Finishing off the top 10 game day spots is Jumpers Sports Bar. With big screens all around and a sunken bar, you’ll feel right at home when you pull up a chair. Want to take a break from the game and play some darts or pool? Jumpers also has that covered.
