A Foodie’s Guide to Dubuque
From great pizza to tasty beer, this city has something for everyone. We truly enjoyed discovering local spots that were both casual and fancy, and everything in between. Breakfast meals, burritos, delicious coffee, tasty treats, & more!
If you're a food lover like me, you won't be disappointed when you visit Dubuque.
Dubuque Farmers' Market
I love visiting Farmers' Markets wherever I'm traveling, and the Dubuque Farmers' Market was so much fun! All different kinds of vendors, great coffee, and the food options were endless. We decided to grab breakfast from the Adobo Mexican Grill food truck and it was incredible. Mouth-watering breakfast burritos are the best way to start the day!
PRO TIP: Get the HUGE cinnamon roles. The best I've ever had.
Europa Haus Restaurant and Bier Stube
Looking for a casual and authentic eatery? Head out of the downtown and over to Europa Haus Restaurant and Bier Stube. When I tell you this was the best Bratwurst and beer I've ever had, I'm not joking. The atmosphere is super laid back and feels like a place where the bartender knows every single person who walks through the doors. We ordered brats, sauerkraut, and red cabbage and loved every bite.
PRO TIP: Order the authentic Oktoberfest Beer straight from Germany. The best I've ever had!
Calico Bean Market
My Dad works in Dubuque and told me to go check out this shop near Fenelon Place Elevator. I'm so glad he did because it was the most fun place to browse! They have everything food and treat-related that you would ever want. This would be a great place to gift shop for the foodie in your life! We loved looking at all of the sprinkle options, olive oils, and random goodies.
PRO TIP: Grab a pack of dried fruit and chocolate covered raisins to bring on your adventures!
L.May Eatery
L. May Eatery was such a delightful surprise. We jumped onto Google Maps to look for a local dinner spot close to our hotel and randomly chose L. May Eatery. The food and atmosphere was incredible! So glad we took a chance on a random spot within walking distance and spent the evening here. Lovely wait staff, a cozy atmosphere, and the food was so tasty.
PRO TIP: Make sure to order the pizza. So yummy!
Convivium Urban Farmstead
When looking for places to eat in new places, we love finding local spots that are also doing good. Supporting local businesses that are also supporting their community is a win-win in our mind! We love the fact that Convivium is a non-profit improving life through food. They grow a lot of their own veggies and herbs and even have chickens for their eggs. We loved our breakfast and the kind wait staff, and our coffee was delicious.
PRO TIP: Take a walk around the grounds after your meal. You can read the signs and learn more about the non profit and process.
