It’s time for a Mardi Gras party! Between our river culture, delicious food, and jazz-filled streets, you won’t find a more southern flared city than Dubuque this Mardi Gras season on the Northern Mississippi. So check out some of the Carnival themed fun to be had in Iowa’s Oldest City.

Take a trip down to the Bayou for a Night In N’awlins at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. Transport yourself to the swamps of Louisiana for a night to enjoy wine tasting from some of Dubuque’s favorite local wineries and a smattering of New Orleans foodie flare. A Bourbon Street Photo Booth, prizes, tons of Mardi Gras garb, live music and more will liven up any party. Not to mention the entire Museum Store will be 20% off. The party all starts at 5:30 pm on February 23, 2017. Must be 21 years old to attend.

Savor the sounds and smells of New Orleans at Flatted Fifth Blues & BBQ in Bellevue during their month of Mardi Gras celebration. Dig into the finest Cajun classics on the northern Mississippi such as Shrimp & Cheesy Grits, Chicken Tchoupitoulas, and the ever-popular Gumbo. Three nights of live music round out the celebratory weekend featuring Ghost Town Blues Band on February 25 at 8 pm, Three Dawgs & A Bone Jazz on February 26 at 5 pm, and Fat Tuesday Jazz with Round Midnight on February 28 at 6 pm. Plus, if you come in and take a photo with their Mardi Gras mascot, Nola of The North, you could win front row seats for their next big night of live music!

Finding the plastic baby hidden within a King Cake during Mardi Gras will make you a King for a day. So why not come down to the Dubuque, Iowa Welcome Center and find one for a chance to win the ultimate Dubuque Mardi Gras Gift Basket on Fat Tuesday, February 28. If a crazy Cajun party just isn’t enough incentive for you, all wine will be 50% off as well as 30% off the entire store. Tradition has it that whoever finds the baby is to host the next party so we expect to see you soon!

Cajun cuisine is the ultimate comfort food for those of us with southern blood pulsing through us. Luckily, Dubuque has plenty of grub to go around. Hit up Fat Tuesdays anytime for a towering Muffuletta or Blackened Salmon to make your mouth water. Or why not go all out on the gluttonous Fat Tuesday and head on down to Diamond Jo Casino for a Mardi Gras Buffet full of Jambalaya, Chicken Gumbo, and more!
